The first church erected here was older then the Salzburg Cathedral, but they both share a common history, during the big fire of 1267 the church burned to its ground. After various rebuilds, the church gained its current look in 1432. For many years, the mixed architecture of the church, the romanic nave and the gothic choir, gave the church a reputation of being the ugliest church in Salzburg. A new church was planned in 1793, but for economic reasons, never build.
